Celebration of Librarians’ Day, Book Exhibition and Essay Writing Competition

The Library and Information Centre and the IQAC of Acharya Tulsi National College of Commerce (ATNCC), Shivamogga, jointly organized a Book Exhibition and Essay Writing Competition on the occasion of National Librarians’ Day on 12 August 2026 at 11:15 a.m. in the College Library.

 

The programme was presided over by Smt. Mamatha P. R., Principal, ATNCC, Shivamogga. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. M. Jagadeesh, Special Officer, ATNCC, Shivamogga. Smt. K. Anupama, IQAC Coordinator, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, were present on the occasion.

 

The introductory remarks were delivered by Mr. Punith H. G., Librarian. He highlighted the life history and achievements of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, and explained the importance of libraries, their role in students’ academic development, and the use of modern technologies in library services.

 

In his inaugural address, Dr. R. M. Jagadeesh, Special Officer, emphasized the importance of developing reading habits among students. He encouraged students to read at least two books every year written by Kannada Jnanpith Award-winning authors and gave the inspiring message, “Leave the Mobile, Pick up a Book.”

 

As part of the programme, a Book Exhibition was organized. Palm-leaf manuscripts, books on various subjects, competitive examination books, and knowledge-enriching publications were displayed. Students enthusiastically visited the exhibition and gained information about a wide range of books and resources.

 

An Essay Competition was conducted from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the topic “The Role of Libraries and Importance Services in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).” Students participated enthusiastically and expressed their views on the changing role of libraries, digital resources, the use of Artificial Intelligence, and the future of information services.

 

The programme played a significant role in promoting reading habits, awareness of library resources, information literacy, and the effective use of digital resources among students. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to all the participants and contributors.
